“Benny & Joon” Cast Party Interviews from Paper Mill Playhouse East Coast Premiere

Exactly one week ago, I was at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey enjoying the exciting opening night of the East Coast premiere of “Benny & Joon”!

If you missed my photo recap, start here. And if you missed my critical review (teaser: I loved it!) start here.

In the video above, I’m proud to present my live interviews with the principal cast and creative team from the opening night cast party of “Benny & Joon” on April 14, 2019 at Moonshine modern supper club in Millburn, New Jersey, where I chatted with the delightful, talented principals Claybourne Elder as Benny, Hannah Elless as Joon, Bryce Pinkham as Sam, and the director Jack Cummings III.

The Tony Award-winning regional theater in Millburn, NJ—under the producing artistic direction of Mark S. Hoebee and managing director Michael Stotts—is currently celebrating its 80th anniversary season.

This stage production of “Benny & Joon” is an intimate, tender-hearted musical based on the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture written by Barry Berman and Leslie McNeil from 1993 that starred Johhny Depp, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Aidan Quinn.

Directed by Cummings III, the musical’s book was written by Kirsten Guenther, the music by Nolan Gasser, and the lyrics by Mindi Dickstein. Choreography was by Scott Rink and music direction was by J. Oconor Navarro.

In addition to Elder, Elless, and Pinkham, the principal cast featured Conor Ryan as Sam (alternate) and Tatiana Wechsler as Ruthie, with Colin Hanlon as Mike, Paolo Montalban as Larry, Natalie Toro as Dr. Cortez/Mrs. Smail, Jacob Keith Watson as Waldo/Video Store Owner and Belinda Allyn (standby for Joon, Ruthie, and Dr. Cortez/Mrs. Smail).

The play runs through May 5, 2019, so get your tickets fast!
