There’s nothing like sitting down with your favorite glossy and reading it cover-to-cover! I took a nice, long moment over the weekend to enjoy the latest O, the Oprah Magazine October edition, and wanted to share my most inspirational take-aways.
It gave us three covers (!!), lensed by Ruven Afandador, with the dream-team styling of make-up artist Derrick Rutledge and hairstylist Nicole Mangrum, who gave Oprah a gorgeous caramel wig that she nicknamed Tatiana!
Oprah wore a sequined boxing robe from Beyonce’s Ivy Park collection, and accessorized with rings from Fernando Jorge and Sylvia & Cie, which reminded us that sometimes a girl needs a little sparkle to feel beautiful!
The third cover featured the three gorgeous winners of the Oprah Shine Bright makeover contest — Jyoti Patel, Kerry Bishop and Mia Brianne Bennett — in a Kelly Ng gown, a Marchesa gown, and a Marc Bouwer gown, respectively. The backstage video (presented by Maybelline New York, and where I took the screenshots) is so much fun!
This month’s Big Question was about beauty, so Oprah chatted with comedienne Amy Schumer about the elusive quality and its shifting standards. Actress Regina Hall spoke on her beauty routine, followed by a cool Halloween-themed Ponds ad with O Mag Insider Misty Dawn Nelson.
On style and decor, creative director Adam Glassman curated eco-friendly, chic fall outfits, and peacock-inspired greens and blues for the home. There was also a great cruelty-free fashion feature on faux fur and how to style it.
On health, O life coach Martha Beck addressed anxiety, and there was a special section on breast cancer by Leslie Goldman. Erika Stallings wrote an excellent, sobering piece on the inequalities in the American health care system based on race and ethnicity.
Shine on, O Mag!
